Breakfast Saturdays

We've all heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, how true this is, is up for debate. Quite a number of people (myself included) do not eat breakfast on most days. Saturday, however, Saturday is reserved for breakfast and chores. If you eat your first meal by 12 p.m, I apologize, but that's not considered breakfast (maybe we should have that debate).
If you grew up in a household were Saturday mornings were immortalized for 'community meal prep' and chores, it's likely that the breakfast options had common themes. Let's explore these recurring themes.

Here are my 5 draft picks for Breakfast Saturdays
BREAD + AKARA + PAP
The BAP. Standard, you hear this and immediately think 'Saturday'. I've said it quite a few times that if a meal has it's standard acronym or a squad name it's a banger on these streets. You can't go wrong with this meal. This is the kind of meal where no one speaks till the meal is over because they want to savour the goodness this meal brings. I'm not really a fan of pap (no fear, there's nothing wrong with it) so i'd swap it with custard, so whichever suits you well is good - oats is a no-no though. Don't get me wrong, I love oats, just not with this pairing. BAP is BAP for a reason. Bread and Akara is not the same as BAP. That's 'Don't-Touch-Me Burger' it has a completely different vibe to BAP (we can talk about this another time as well).
Don't get it twisted.

Saturday morning rating: 4 stars
My next pick is inevitably:
MOI-MOI + PAP
Definitely has to be next pick. Very similar to The BAP although I'm of the opinion that this meal is more 'Saturday-y', it is almost an exclusive meal for the weekend. There's multiple debate on how the preparation method has an effect on its taste. Whether wrapped in leaves, baked, or prepared in cups it doesn't matter much to me. I believe the outcome is more or less the same.

Now there's a reason I didn't add bread to this, bread changes the dynamic of this meal. You add bread to this and what you have is; 'Risky-Burger' and Pap - that's a whole different thing, this is not what we are going for. The BAP rules for the pap applies here as well. No oats please.
Saturday morning rating: 5 stars
Pick number 3 will be:
YAM + EGGSAUCE
Yam lovers are dancing right now. This meal needs no introduction, its deeds speak on its behalf. We all know this as a knockout meal which makes it ideal for the weekend. This is usually the go-to meal for when you want to make things 'intercontinental'. The rich flavors and textures of the yam combined with a flavorful eggsauce makes this meal worth it.
Yam and Eggsauce is often enjoyed with a side of fried plantains or fresh vegetables. Its satisfying and comforting nature makes it a beloved dish that brings families and friends together.
Saturday morning rating: 4.5 stars
My 4th pick for the Breakfast Saturday draft is:
PANCAKES
The 'innit' guys are happy, their favourite made the list.
Not my first choice if I'm being honest but, pancakes are quite a popular breakfast treat that can be enjoyed on any day of the week. However, on a leisurely Saturday morning, we have the opportunity to elevate pancakes into a hearty and complete meal experience.
With this meal, you can take inspiration from any rich culinary heritage and incorporate flavors and ingredients that add an authentic touch to the meal that suites your preference (yes, I'm making a case for those of you that add pepper and onions).
To truly bring out that 'weekend' nature of a Saturday morning, I encourage you to sit back, relax, and enjoy your pancakes and accompaniments with a hot cup of Nigerian-style tea or refreshing glass of zobo or orange juice
Saturday morning rating: 4 stars
I'll give my last draft pick to:
TEA + JAM + BREAD
Does your fav have a song dedicated to it? I didn't think so.

This is a staple as well, this meal goes with everyday of the week and Saturday isn't excluded. The simplicity of this meal allows people to quickly whip something up in short notice and still have a good meal, and because there's no manual for its preparation, you can never go wrong with this (if you do you're a special person). You can pair this with any of your favourite things *wink wink* - eggs, avocado. You can also have a mixture of spreads, doesn't have to be jam or a single spread.
CONCLUSION
Saturday Breakfast is an opportunity to embrace the special time with family while savoring unique flavors and creating cherished memories. Gather loved ones, enjoy the leisurely pace, and let the flavors of Saturday Breakfast nourish your body and soul, making it a cherished tradition in your weekend routine.
